Mrs. Ritchie

6th & 7th

Welcome to ELA in Room 16.

Texts and Online Learning
This year we are piloting a new series for both 6th and 7th grades.  In my classes, we will be using Holt-McDougal's Study-Sync Program for at least the first quarter. This may be different than what other students in 6th and 7th grades are using for their ELA classes. Rest assured all standards will be covered and students will grow.

Expectations and Focus
In my classroom, we will focus on growth in Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Students are expected to take class time, as well as homework time, seriously. We will work on study skills, and time management within the overall context of my class.  Independent reading at home is required in my ELA classes. Accessing online textbooks, and other materials,  school webpages and Google Docs will be essential to learning in my class. This can be done offline as needed if settings are made on Chromebook and mobile phones.

*Students are expected to come to class on time.

*Students are expected to be ready to learn and show              responsibility by bringing all materials needed for class, including completed homework, projects and papers, texts, fully-charged Chromebooks, notebooks, folders, filler paper/loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, binders, writing utensils, highlighters, and whatever may be posted on the board outside my classroom door.

*Students are expected to respect one another and all adults in my classroom/building. This comes in many forms, from using words wisely, to being quiet as others are speaking; from showing a desire to learn to showing empathy and compassion for all students and adults in our building.

Grade Weights
I weight grades which means that some things count for more than other things. An assignment may seem short, but may be showing me more about students' learning and therefore they will mean more in the gradebook.

75% Assessments which include but are not limited to formal papers, tests, quizzes, projects, and speeches.
25% Homework and class work.
