Hi!  Thanks for visiting my website.  I teach 7th grade ELA and social studies.  This is my eleventh year at RTMS.  I taught 6th grade ELA and social studies for six years, and this is my fifth year teaching 7th grade ELA.  I attended Loyola University for my teaching degree and received my masters degree in technology and instruction from Western Governors University. When I am not teaching I like to play and watch sports, spend time with my two daughters, and of course...READ!

7th grade ELA Curriculum

In literature we will read a variety of fictional stories focusing on the elements of fiction. We will also read non-fiction and learn about how text structure and text features help us understand what we read.

In language arts this year, we will focus on steps in the writing process. We will compose several different essays while learning and practicing proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Grammar, Greek and Latin roots, and vocabulary will be integrated into lessons everyday to help students become fluent readers and articulate writers and speakers.

7th grade Social Studies Curriculum

American History is the focus of social studies in 7th grade.  We will begin with the earliest Americans and move forward until we the end of WWI.  In social studies, our text book will be the main source of information as we learn how to better read functional text for understanding.  However, we will do many other activities to help us learn about American history including a variety of projects, using interactive websites, viewing educational videos, creating multimedia presentations, and field trips that enhance our learning.
